Blog Post 9: Interviews and Public Speaking

We had our first PDC meeting of 2020 last Sunday, where our goal was to improve on interview and public speaking skills. We first went over interview etiquette and then had each member go through a mock interview round where they were applying to be a committee lead. Through this, members were able to warm up to each other, as well as gain a better understanding of how to conduct themselves in a professional interview, from handshakes and behavior, to the professional way to answer questions and paint yourself in a better light. After this, we went over impromptu tips, and I demonstrated a mock impromptu on the prompt "Describe your perfect assassination plan." It was quite humorous to lighten the mood and give the members a demonstration of what an impromptu should look like. After this, each member received their own impromptu prompt and index cards, and they had 5 minutes to prepare a 2 minute impromptu presentation on the speech. The members impressed me quite a bit, as their speeches were logical and they presented with confidence, especially since this was their first experience with impromptu. Overall, the meeting was a success, and the members had a lot of fun and were challenged to step out of their comfort zones to learn something new. Below is a picture that some members took in the middle of the meeting, completely catching us off guard.
